Historic Core

End of Life for Galvanized

The historic part of Enumclaw has homes with original galvanized supply lines. Over decades the inside of that pipe corrodes, narrows and starts to shed rust, which shows up as weak pressure and discolored water.

If you have patched the same house more than once, a repipe replaces the underlying problem instead of the next leak. We assess the home first and tell you if it is time.

Polybutylene piping, usually gray or blue plastic with crimped fittings, is another reason to repipe. If you find it in the house, we recommend planning replacement rather than waiting for a failure.

Signs your supply may be failing

  • →Rust-colored water
  • →Weak pressure everywhere
  • →Repeated pinhole leaks
  • →Several repairs in a few years
The Process

How the Work Goes

We walk the home, plan access points and open walls only where needed. New PEX lines are run, each connection is pressure-tested, and the inspection is scheduled.

Wall repair, texture and paint are not included unless written into the scope. We say that before you sign so you can plan the finish work.

PEX is flexible, corrosion resistant and faster to install than copper, which keeps the cost reasonable for most homes. Copper is not our standard residential repipe, and we explain when it might come up.

Before we start, we explain how long the plumbing portion usually takes and which rooms we will need access to, so you can plan around the work at home.

Permits

Through the City

Plumbing permits in Enumclaw go through the Community Development Department, and we pull the permit and schedule the inspection ourselves.

The City of Enumclaw Water Utility supplies the water to the meter. Our work begins from the house side and covers the piping inside, so a service line problem is a separate question we sort out in the assessment.

Because we open walls strategically instead of everywhere, the work stays as contained as it can. Financing is available if you would rather spread out the cost of the project.

If an assessment shows only part of the house needs new supply lines, we say that too and do not recommend more than the home needs.
