Kitchen & Bathroom Remodel Plumbing: Rough-In and Finish

Moving a sink, adding a shower, relocating a toilet, or redoing a kitchen. We do the plumbing at both ends of a remodel: the rough-in before the walls close, and the finish once your tile and cabinets are in. Your contractor or you handle what goes in between.

A plumbing company that remembers your home.

What We Do in a Remodel

Rough-In (walls and floors open)

  • Drain, waste, and vent piping for new or relocated sinks, toilets, tubs, and showers
  • Water supply lines, usually PEX, with stub-outs at the right heights for your fixtures
  • Shower and tub valve bodies set to the depth your wall finish needs
  • Gas lines for a new range or cooktop location (see gas line services)
  • Pressure tests and the plumbing inspection where your jurisdiction requires a permit

Finish (after tile, drywall, and cabinets)

  • Set toilets and install faucets, sinks, shower trim, and tub spouts
  • Connect dishwashers, disposals, ice makers, and laundry
  • Test every fixture for leaks and drainage before we leave

What We Do Not Do

We are plumbers. We do not do demolition of finishes, framing, tile, shower pans set by the tile installer, drywall, paint, cabinets, countertops, or electrical. Those go to your general contractor or the trades you hire. We coordinate with them so the plumbing is where their work needs it.

How a Remodel Usually Runs

  1. Walkthrough: We look at the layout, where the drains and vents can actually go, and what the existing plumbing looks like.
  2. Written quote: Rough-in and finish priced separately, so you know both numbers before demo starts.
  3. Rough-in: After demo and framing, before insulation and drywall.
  4. Inspection: Where a permit is required, the rough plumbing is inspected before the walls close.
  5. Other trades: Insulation, drywall, tile, cabinets, counters.
  6. Finish: We set fixtures, connect appliances, and test.

What Changes the Price

  • Moving a toilet or shower drain: Easy over a crawlspace, harder on a concrete slab where the floor has to be cut.
  • Island sinks: Venting a sink with no wall behind it takes planning. We size the venting to code before the cabinets are ordered.
  • Old piping: If the remodel uncovers galvanized supply or cast iron drains in poor shape, opening the walls is the cheapest time to replace them. We tell you what we find and price it separately.
  • Fixtures: You can supply your own or have us supply them. Tell us before the rough-in so valve bodies and stub-outs match.
Honest take: Pick your shower valve, toilet, and faucets before the rough-in. Rough-in heights and valve bodies depend on them, and changing your mind after the tile is up is expensive.

Remodel vs. New Construction

This page is for existing homes. Plumbing for new builds and additions with their own permits is on our new construction plumbing page.

What It Costs

Flat-rate, written quote with rough-in and finish separated. No trip charge in our service area. Changes after the quote are priced in writing before we do them.

Remodel Plumbing FAQs

Common Remodel Plumbing Questions

Do you do the tile and drywall too?

No. We do the plumbing rough-in and finish. Tile, drywall, cabinets, and finishes go to your contractor or the trades you hire.

Can you work with my general contractor?

Yes. We schedule around your contractor so rough-in happens after framing and finish happens after tile and cabinets.

Can I move my toilet to a different spot?

Usually, yes. Over a crawlspace it is straightforward. On a slab the concrete has to be cut and patched, which costs more. We look before we quote.

Do I need a permit for remodel plumbing?

Most jurisdictions require a plumbing permit when you add or move fixtures. Requirements vary by city and county, and we confirm with yours before rough-in.

Can I buy my own fixtures?

Yes. Get them to us before rough-in so the valve bodies and connections match what you bought.
