Emergency Plumbing in Parkland
A burst pipe or a sewage backup does not wait for a convenient time. Call us, and we will tell you what to do while we get to you.
What to Do Before We Arrive
Shut off the water at the main valve if a pipe is spraying or the floor is flooding. In older Parkland houses, that valve may not have been turned in many years, so find it before you need it and make sure it moves.
If sewage is coming up, stop running water. Every sink, shower, and washer you use adds to what is coming out of the lowest drain.
Do first
- →Close the main water valve
- →Turn off the water heater if it is leaking
- →Keep people and pets out of sewage
- →Move valuables off the floor
Where Parkland Houses Fail
Parkland is an older established community, and mid-century supply piping, especially galvanized, can fail at a joint or elbow with little warning. Original sewer laterals with roots in them can also shut down a whole house at once.
Newer infill homes have newer piping, so their emergencies tend to be a failed fitting, a supply connector, or a water heater.
After the water is off or the backup is contained, we look at the cause before quoting the repair. A temporary fix that gets the house usable is sometimes the right first step, and we will say what is temporary and what is permanent.
You will get a flat-rate quote before work starts, and the number does not change because it is a bad night or a weekend. On-call coverage depends on availability, so call and we will tell you what we can do.
When It Is Not Ours to Fix
If you smell natural gas, leave the building and call your gas utility's emergency line from outside. Do not flip switches or use phones inside. We can work on gas piping once the utility has made it safe.
If the trouble looks like it sits in the water system before your meter, contact Parkland Light and Water. If a sewer backup traces to the county main, that is a Pierce County matter. We will tell you plainly if that is what we find.
