Our general tankless water heater service page covers the work in more detail.
The Bradford White tankless models
Bradford White's Infiniti gas line has four series, all condensing, all rated for natural gas or propane. The numbers below come from Bradford White's own spec sheets.
- Infiniti K, model RTG-K-160-N1. Indoor. Input of 9,000 to 160,000 BTU per hour on natural gas. 7.0 GPM at a 45 degree rise and 4.2 GPM at a 75 degree rise. Uniform energy factor of 0.95. No built-in recirculation pump, but the unit has wiring for an external pump, which is sold separately. Features SRT scale reduction and STEADISET technology.
- Infiniti L, model RTG-L-199-N1. Indoor. Input of 9,000 to 199,000 BTU per hour on natural gas. 8.7 GPM at a 45 degree rise and 5.2 GPM at a 75 degree rise. Uniform energy factor of 0.95. Built-in recirculation pump, with SRT and STEADISET.
- Infiniti GS, models RTG-S-150 and RTG-S-199. Indoor or outdoor, with an outdoor vent kit for outdoor use. Stainless steel heat exchanger. The 150 model is listed at 6.6 GPM and the 199 model at 8.7 GPM at a 45 degree rise. Maximum UEF of 0.98.
- Infiniti GR, models RTG-R-150 and RTG-R-199. The GS with a built-in recirculation pump and a dedicated recirculation connection.
Bradford White's tankless page does not describe Wi-Fi or app control for these gas units, so we do not promise it. The company's KwickShot electric units are point of use heaters for a single location, such as a sink, and are not a whole-home option.
Sizing, gas, vent, and condensate
Tankless units are rated in gallons per minute at a given temperature rise, which is how much the unit must warm your incoming water. We measure your incoming water temperature, add up the fixtures and appliances that might run at once, and pick the unit that covers that peak. An undersized unit runs cold when two showers and the dishwasher overlap. An oversized one costs more than it should.
Gas. These are high input units, so the gas line matters. The GS and GR spec sheets list compatibility with 1/2 inch gas pipe up to 25 feet. The K and L spec sheets allow 1/2, 3/4, or 1 inch connections and point to the installation manual for sizing. In our service area an upsize from 1/2 inch to 3/4 inch is often needed. We check your meter and total connected load and pull the gas permit. See our gas line services.
Vent. The K and L list 2 inch vent up to 60 feet or 3 inch vent up to 280 feet, in PP, PVC, or CPVC. The GS and GR list 2 inch PVC up to 60 feet or 3 inch up to 150 feet, in PVC, CPVC, stainless steel, or polypropylene. We confirm the exit point and clearances before we quote.
Condensate. A condensing unit produces condensate that needs a drain. The K and L have a flushing condensate trap and offer an optional neutralizer kit. We plan the drain at the assessment, not on install day.
What our install includes
- Free in-home assessment: incoming water temperature, gas and electrical capacity, vent path, water line condition, and mounting location.
- Flat-rate quote before any work, including permits and code upgrades.
- Install day: shut off water, remove the old unit, run gas, water, and vent as needed, mount and commission the new unit, and test temperature rise at your fixtures.
- Permit pulled, inspection scheduled, warranty registered.
A first-time tankless install is often a full day. Tankless to tankless swaps go faster.
Maintenance and descaling
Local water has enough mineral content to build scale on a tankless heat exchanger over time. We recommend an annual descale on most units, more often on harder water. The K and L have built-in flush ports for descaling and an externally accessible inlet water filter, and Bradford White lists SRT scale reduction technology on them. SRT reduces scale; it does not remove the need for service. See water heater maintenance.
Warranty
Bradford White's Infiniti K and L warranty document lists a 15 year limited heat exchanger warranty and a 5 year limited parts warranty. Each is 15 or 5 years or 8,000 operational hours, whichever is shorter, and is exclusive of labor, freight, and installation costs. Use other than a single-family home is warranted for 8 years on the heat exchanger. The warranty does not cover defective installation, sediment or lime precipitate in the heat exchanger, or water quality contrary to the written requirements. Bradford White provides a serial number lookup and registration on its warranty page on bradfordwhite.com. We register the unit after install.
